If you're running the Planet Eclipse GEO R5, you already know it’s one of the most advanced paintball markers on the market. But like any high performance marker, it needs proper maintenance to keep it running at peak performance. Especially when it comes to the bolt system.
Whether you're prepping for a big tournament or just keeping things clean after a weekend of play, this guide walks you through how to service your GEO R5 bolt system quickly and correctly!
Why Bolt Maintenance Matters!
The GEO R5 runs the Eclipse GR drivetrain, known for its smooth shot, low operating pressure, and incredible consistency. Keeping the bolt system clean and properly lubricated ensures:
-
Consistent velocity and accuracy
-
Fewer shot drop offs or barrel breaks
-
Longer lifespan for internal components
-
Quieter and smoother shooting
What You'll Need:
Before you get started, make sure you have the basics on hand:
-
Allen/Hex keys (not needed, but it never hurts to have them ready!)
Step by Step Guide:
1. Degas the Marker and Remove the GR Drivetrain
Safety first! Always make sure the marker is fully degassed and turned off. Use the rear cap to access the bolt assembly. The GEO R5 features tool less bolt removal, so no hex keys needed here.
2. Disassemble the GR Drivetrain
Once the entire core is out, gently twist and pull the components apart. You’ll see the bolt, bolt can, valve body, and the propshaft. Don’t force anything! Everything should separate easily.
3. Clean Each Component
Use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe off old grease, paint, or debris from each part. Make sure the O-rings are free of dirt and inspect them for any signs of wear or tear.
4. Apply Fresh Grease
Apply a light, even layer of Planet Eclipse grease to all O-rings (except for the o-ring located in the valve body) and contact points. Don't overdo it! Too much grease can lead to sluggish performance or bolt stick.
5. Reassemble and Reinstall
Carefully reassemble the bolt components and slide the full assembly back into the marker. The GEO R5’s design allows for the back cap to snap into place easily, and the bolt assembly should slide into the body smoothly.
6. Function Test
Once the marker is reassembled, gas it up and dry fire a few shots to make sure everything sounds and feels right. You’re looking for smooth cycling and proper air release. Once you verify there are no leaks, and your marker is working properly, you're good to go!
How Often Should You Clean the Bolt System?
For most players, cleaning the bolt after every couple of weeks is more than enough. If you’re playing in dusty, muddy, or rainy conditions, or shooting a lot of brittle paint, you should check and clean it more frequently. Tournament players may choose to do a quick bolt service between matches for maximum consistency!
Final Tips:
-
Never use oil on GEO R5 O-rings! Always stick with the Planet Eclipse grease.
-
Make sure your marker is fully degassed when in storage!
-
Replace worn O-rings as needed. The GEO R5 comes with a small rebuild kit, and the manual shows you exactly where and what each o-ring is for!
Keep Your GEO R5 Game Ready!
A few minutes of maintenance keeps your Planet Eclipse GEO R5 running like the ultra-reliable and ultra-smooth machine it is. The bolt system is the heart of its performance of the GEO R5. Take care of it, and it will take care of you!
