What Are Stunna and RYVL Teasing for the Future of Paintball?
The 2026 NXL Lone Star Open is officially in the books, but there were a couple of interesting moments during the event broadcast that caught Sam's attention.
They weren't new marker announcements, roster moves, or something that happened on the field. Instead, they were two advertisements that left us with a lot more questions than answers.
One featured esports personality Tres 'stunna' Saranthus. The other introduced a new name to the paintball industry: RYVL.
So, what exactly is going on?
Right now, we don't know. But there are definitely some interesting possibilities worth talking about!
Why Was Stunna in a Paintball Advertisement?
The first surprise was seeing stunna appear during the NXL broadcast.
For anyone unfamiliar with him, stunna is primarily known for his work in esports as a host, analyst, and personality. He's been associated with major esports competitions and broadcasts, including events surrounding Counter Strike 2.
Which raises an obvious question:
Why is an esports personality appearing during a professional paintball broadcast?
There are plenty of possible explanations.
Maybe he has friends or business connections within paintball. Maybe it was simply a fun collaboration. Maybe he's a paintball fan himself.
Or maybe there's something bigger happening behind the scenes.
Could stunna be getting involved with paintball content? Could there be some type of crossover between esports and professional paintball? Could we eventually see personalities from outside the sport helping introduce competitive paintball to a different audience?
At this point, we simply don't know.
And that's what makes the appearance interesting.
Could Esports and Paintball Have More in Common Than We Think?
There are some obvious differences between competitive gaming and tournament paintball, but the two worlds also share quite a bit.
Both rely heavily on communication, positioning, teamwork, quick decision making, and understanding what your opponent is doing in real time.
Professional paintball has also continued to improve as a spectator sport, with live broadcasts, commentators, player statistics, and increasingly sophisticated coverage of NXL events.
That doesn't mean stunna's appearance signals some major esports crossover. There isn't enough information to make that claim.
But seeing someone associated with that world appear during an NXL broadcast certainly gives paintball fans something interesting to think about.
Then There's RYVL
The second advertisement might be even more interesting for paintball players.
RYVL is a new name entering the paintball industry, with longtime professional player Chad "Yaya" Bouchez associated with the brand.
Unlike a simple product teaser, however, we still don't have a complete picture of what RYVL intends to bring to paintball.
And that's where things get interesting.
What Kind of Paintball Gear Could RYVL Make?
There are plenty of possibilities.
Could RYVL focus on tournament apparel and protective gear? We wouldn't be surprised to see soft goods be first on their list.
At this stage, we're not going to pretend we know....because simply put, no one knows.
What we can say is that we're excited to see RYVL bring some new flair to the sport, or possibly something new that the paintball world has never seen.
Still, it suggests that RYVL could potentially have ambitions beyond launching a single piece of paintball gear, a singular category of paintball gear, or maybe try to do what Exalt did back in the day: make the best accessories to paintball and paintball gear.
Chad "Yaya" Bouchez Brings Plenty of Paintball Experience
Having Chad "Yaya" Bouchez involved makes the announcement even more interesting.
Yaya has spent years around professional paintball and understands what competitive players actually expect from their equipment.
That experience doesn't tell us exactly what RYVL is building, but it does mean the brand has someone involved who understands the demands of high level paintball firsthand.
For players, that's going to make the eventual product reveal worth seeing.
Could We Learn More at NXL World Cup?
For now, RYVL is still largely a mystery.
But with the NXL World Cup coming next, it would be a natural stage for a new paintball company to show players what it has been working on, and that's exactly what will happen. NXL World Cup 2026 is when we will see what RYVL has been up to, and we are super excited about it.
Two Short Ads and a Lot of Questions
That's really the fun part of both stories.
Stunna appearing during an NXL broadcast doesn't necessarily mean esports and paintball are about to collide. RYVL appearing at the Lone Star Open doesn't tell us exactly what products are coming either.
Right now, there are more questions than answers. But paintball is always more interesting when something new is happening.
If outside personalities are beginning to take an interest in the sport and new companies are preparing to introduce fresh products, the next few months could be worth paying attention to.
